Rapid Bay Jetty
Rapid Bay's old loading jetty has rotted into one of the world's most dependable leafy seadragon dives. The dragons hang in the weed and kelp at the pylon bases, swaying like the plants they imitate, and finding your first one rewires what you think camouflage means. The pylons themselves are furred with sponges and soft growth, sheltering old wives, moonlighters, boarfish, and seahorses, while schools of yellowtail turn the midwater into a slow carousel. It is shallow, long, cold, and unhurried diving, best treated as a two-hour treasure hunt with a camera.
El momento por el que vienes: Leafy seadragons at close range, overgrown pylon forest, long shallow bottom times
Topografía: Sand and seagrass under a derelict jetty whose pylons are thick with growth
Corriente: Usually still; wind chop matters more than current.
Entrada: Enter from the dive platform and stairs on the newer jetty, then swim to the old jetty's pylon forest; it is a long surface walk with gear.
Lo que debes saber antes de tirarte al agua
Riesgos: Fishing line and hooks around pylons, cold water, and boat traffic near the jetty head.
Conservación: Leafy seadragons are protected: no touching, no moving them for photos, and strobes at a considerate distance.
