The Coral Greenhouse is the flagship of the Museum of Underwater Art: a skeletal chapel of stainless steel seeded onto the sand at John Brewer Reef in late 2019, filled with sculpted figures tending planters of transplanted coral. Sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor built it to age, and it has: corals thicken along the frames, baitfish stream through the naves, and batfish and trevally treat the roofline as a cleaning station. It is an easy, shallow dive with a purpose beyond novelty, doubling as a coral nursery and a place to talk about reef stewardship, and it photographs like nothing else in Queensland.
바로 그 순간: Underwater sculpture pavilion, growing coral transplants, fish life colonizing art, easy depth
지형: Sand and rubble flat beside reef, holding a large stainless-steel sculpture pavilion
진입: Day boats from Townsville moor inside John Brewer Reef's sheltered lagoon edge; the structure sits on sand nearby.
입수 전에 알아두세요
위험 요소: Mind fins around transplant planters; otherwise a benign lagoon-edge dive.
보존: An active coral-restoration installation: no touching the frames or planters.
