Sha'ab El Erg curves like a drawn bow around a turquoise lagoon, and its resident bottlenose dolphins are the reason half the boats from Hurghada and El Gouna point here. Encounters are genuinely wild and never guaranteed: some days the pod rests in the lagoon and passes divers repeatedly on the drop-off, other days it is elsewhere and the site falls back on its own merits - which are real. The northern plateau carries a field of coral pinnacles patrolled by snapper and the occasional turtle, seagrass patches hide rays, and the easy depths suit every certification level. Operators who brief patience and forbid chasing get the better encounters; dolphins choose, divers wait, and the difference in outcome is obvious.
Le moment pour lequel vous venez: Wild bottlenose dolphin encounters on their terms; pinnacle gardens on the north plateau; calm lagoon logistics.
Topographie: Horseshoe reef enclosing a sandy lagoon, with coral gardens and an ergs-and-pinnacles northern plateau
Entrée: A large horseshoe reef between Hurghada and El Gouna; boats anchor in the lagoon and dive the outer corners.
À savoir avant de plonger
Dangers: Boat traffic in the lagoon entrances; long swims if the pod draws divers off the reef line.
Conservation: Never chase or corner the dolphins; let the pod set distance and duration. Crowding pressure here is real and behavior codes matter.
