Kinasi Pass

Kinasi Pass is the artery of Mafia Island Marine Park. On the incoming tide, clean ocean water pours through the gap into Chole Bay and the pass becomes a conveyor: divers drift over coral terraces while grouper hold their stations, barracuda and trevally hunt the funneled baitfish, turtles angle across the flow, and ribbontail rays hug the sand below. The coral on the walls stays remarkably intact for a working channel. Timing is everything — the outgoing tide dumps green bay water and is avoided — and on spring tides the ride is quick enough to demand attention. The park's signature dive, in every sense.
