Tulamben Drop-Off

A ten-minute walk from the Liberty, the Drop-Off gives Tulamben its second act: a true wall grown from an old lava tongue, falling from knee-deep water to well past forty meters. Barrel sponges the size of bathtubs, sea fans hosting pygmy seahorses, and black coral bushes decorate the face, while clouds of anthias work the shallows and the occasional reef shark or eagle ray passes in the blue. Overhangs shelter lionfish, sweetlips, and morays, and night dives here turn up Spanish dancers and hunting cephalopods. It rounds out a classic Tulamben day, wreck in the morning, muck at midday, wall in the afternoon, all from the same stretch of dark beach.
