Fukui Point
Fukui breaks Bunaken's vertical habit. Instead of a wall, the west-coast site descends in coral terraces and sand shelves, which changes the cast: garden eels sway on the flats, gobies and shrimp share burrows, and a row of giant clams, some approaching a meter across, sits like parked luggage partway down the slope. Mid-water, fusiliers and surgeonfish school over the bommies, trevally make hunting passes, and turtles commute between naps. The stepped profile suits multilevel dives and beginners, while photographers get subjects the walls rarely offer. It rounds out a Bunaken day nicely precisely because it looks nothing like the rest of the park.
Le moment pour lequel vous venez: The giant-clam row; terraces of garden eels and gobies; relaxed multilevel profiles.
Topographie: Stepped coral slope with sandy terraces, bommies, and a famous line of giant clams.
Courant: Gentler than the walls; mild drifts across the terraces are typical.
À savoir avant de plonger
Dangers: Few; occasional current at the outer point.
Conservation: The clams are decades old and irreplaceable at this size; give them the wide berth their siphons request.
