Sardine Reef

There are no sardines at Sardine Reef; the name refers to how tightly everything else packs together. This submerged mound east of Kri gets raked by current, and on a running tide the water over it turns granular with fusiliers, surgeonfish, and snappers, so dense they periodically blot out the light. Sweetlips crowd shoulder-to-shoulder under the overhangs, wobbegongs lie folded on the plate corals, and trevally, mackerel, and reef sharks make continuous passes through the bait. Because the reef top sits shallow, much of the dive is spent tucked at its shoulder watching the collisions above. It is loud, busy diving, and a fair rival to Cape Kri on the right tide.

Topografia: Fully submerged oval reef mound, coral-covered on all sides, dropping to sand around 30 m.
